Peter Osgood Tribute Weekend

1976 FA Cup Anniversary Dinner at St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

A brilliant night of fun, entertainment and nostalgia was enjoyed by all in the very capable hands of MC Mike Osman who led us through the evening in his inimitable style.

The evening was a joint venture with the Southampton Old Boys Association to raise money for both the Ex Saints and the Peter Osgood Trust. Both charities were represented by their respective chairmen who spoke on the night - John Webster from Ex Saints and Richard King from Chelsea.

The event was sponsored by Clive Wilson of SES Autoparts and our grateful thanks go to him and for all his hard work in making the night a great success.

The 1976 FA Cup win for Southampton was celebrated as the match was being shown during the evening. Peter Osgood was a part of this famous team and a tribute DVD was screened which included his highlights from Chelsea together with his Southampton achievements.

Tributes were also filmed from Mick Channon and Lawrie McMenemy who were unable to be with us on this very special night.

We were delighted to have many faces from the 1976 squad with us including Paul Gilchrist, Mel Blyth, and Jimmy Steele, together with the famous Matt le Tissier and Francis Benali. The amazing Tommy Docherty who managed Manchester United in 1976 (the losing side against Saints in the FA Cup) reminisced about that time and also about his admiration for Peter as a player.

Bob ‘the Cat’ Bevan MBE entertained as after dinner speaker and ‘Abba Rival’ provided the well known music and dancing to end a wonderful night.

An auction, raffle and a fantastic Millionaire game raised funds for the charities which proved to be a truly successful night.

Ex Saints v Chelsea Old Boys at Eastleigh FC

It was a wonderful day at the Silverlake Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May when Eastleigh FC hosted a match between Ex Saints and Chelsea Old Boys. The Southampton team included the legendary Matt Le Tissier along with Paul Jones, Franny Benali, Jason Dodd, Nicky Banger and Rod Wallace plus many more 'Saints' from years gone by and were led onto the pitch by the one and only Lawrie MacMenemy.

The wonderful Tommy Docherty led out Chelsea once again with Tommy Langley, Tor Andre Flo, Clive Walker, Graham Wilkins and many former Chelsea stars from over the years. A very entertaining match was enjoyed by over 1,200 spectators on a chilly but sunny afternoon with Ex Saints running out winners by 5-1. It wasn't just about football though with fun for all the family from a bouncy castle to the experience of driving a full size Formula 1 racing car simulator! It really was a great fun day out with the bonus of an exciting football match with many past stars of the game providing excellent entertainment.

The whole day was a fitting way to remember former Chelsea and Saints legend Peter Osgood while raising funds for the Peter Osgood Trust and the Ex Saints Association.

With love and thanks,

Lynn Osgood
